This is March of 2007, when I knew Apollo as Brick, and was totally thrilled to ride him. I wrote that he acted as though he expected me to be a much better rider, responding to such subtle cues that I was learning to give them myself. He was so much fun!
Rachel asked me what my riding goal was and I said to ride Brick. He was reserved for riders more advanced than I was. Took a few months at least before she assigned him to me.
Rachel also wanted to protect him from as many jumping lessons as she could, and if I used him in a lesson, that was one less lesson for him. He never did more than two in a day, and had to be dropped back to one, then of course… we know that story!
And now another tale begins, again in Canada.
